All You Can Eat Sushi @ Japanese Restaurant Miki, Banff

I'll start this post with something irrelevant. I used to live 2 minutes away from the Japanese Restaurant Miki for almost a year but it was my first time here! Haha. Talk about lame eh.

Anyway, I just recently discovered that Japanese Restaurant Miki offers all you can eat sushi in winter! Can you believe that? I only learned about this fact after a year and half?! Guys, I have been whining about non-existence all you can eat sushi restaurant in Banff all this time but turned out, I was super close to what I have been dreaming of. What a cruel fate eh especially after I have spent more than two thousand dollars on sushi for the past a year and half T^T #justkidding

Tip: Japanese Restaurant Miki offers all you can eat sushi on top of their regular menu in winter. The starting date and ending date are not fixed so you have to be alert with their announcements on their Facebook page.

Decided to try their all you can eat sushi because I'm a sushi freak. Also, because I wanted to see if their sushi suit my taste buds and if it's worth the price tag. The price for an adult is CAD 35 plus taxes while for a kid is CAD 17 plus taxes. Honestly, this was the most expensive all you can eat sushi that I have ever had in my life. However, the time limit was the longest time limit that I have ever encountered. The time limit is 110 minutes after taking a seat. Most of all you can eat sushi restaurants that I have been to have 90 minutes time limit. So, I guess, that is a plus point?

Tip: The regular operating hours of the restaurant is 5 PM to 10 PM. However, they may close as early as 8:30 PM if they do not have customers. Again, keep your eyes open on their Facebook page.

Tip: They have few rules that you need to abide when ordering. So, please read the instruction carefully. For instance, if you're ordering tempura, you can only order up to 5 pieces per person for each item in a single order. Basically if you are alone and want to eat 10 shrimp tempura, you have to order twice but they will only give your the second order after you've finished your first order.

Won't talk about the freshness and stuff because I don't know about that kind of things and I'm not that picky! For me, as long as sedap ditekak, I'm okay :)

However, I was so surprised when my orders were served! Everything were smaller than average in size. I lol'd so hard, okay. I guess I am too used with bigger size sushi that it baffled me when I saw what they served me. Other than the small size, I was pretty much happy. Had 2 round of orders but I practically ordered the same thing; shrimp tempura; scallop tempura; mushroom tempura; squid tempura; crab salad nigiri; squid nigiri; octopus nigiri; scallop nigiri; and tamago nigiri.

I spent about 2 hour-ish here, a lil bit longer than the set time limit but I didn't get chased out. Thank god! In fact, the server offered me to go for third round but I had to declined because I was too full! I was on the verge of throwing up when I was finished with my ice-cream. Haha. I guess they didn't mind to let me stay longer because I was the ONLY customer in that 2 hours-ish.

All in all, it was a nice dining experience. Service was good and food was okay, nothing special. I got everything that I have been aiming for. However, I don't think I'll come back to this restaurant anytime soon. Mainly because it's quite far from my current staff accommodation and I rather spend more money at my favourite sushi restaurant in town (though it will probably leave a bigger hole in my wallet).

    1. Ya ke? Most of all you can eat sushi restaurants that I have been to in Canada do not practice that. You're allowed to order as much as you want in one single order but you'll be charged accordingly if you don't finish everything. That's the most common rule here.

    1. Harga bukan mahal juga tapi mahal sangat T^T & Yes, sushi dia kecil compared to sushi at other places. Hehe. As far as I know, ramai gila Canadians makan sushi. Masa tinggal dekat Guelph dulu, banyak gila sushi restaurants. Dekat Toronto lagilah banyak! Dekat Banff ni je ada sikit. Lepas tu, takde all you can eat sushi restaurant T^T

    3. Betul! Betul! Tak tahu kenapa kalau Ramadan cukuplah makan sikit je.

For me, selalunya I informed the servers about my dietary and asked the servers. Selalu cakap, I'm a pescatarian and I'm allergic to alcohol. Then, they will advise mana yang boleh je.

Our rule of thumb dekat Canada is kalau boleh try pergi restaurant yang tak serve pork dishes. Also, if the restaurants tu serve majority pork dishes, memang takkan masuk. But, kalau restaurants tu serve pork dishes tapi sikit je (like 2 or 3 out 50 from their menu), kami masuk je dekat sini because it's almost impossible to find a restaurant without pork dishes, unless pergi Mediterranean restaurants.
